Q:Hi Julia. So, what city do you like better, the city you grew up in Cali or Seattle?

jnguon23

Hey!

What an awesome question!

It’s hard to say whether I like one city more than the other. San Mateo/San Francisco will always be home for me, and there are some aspects of California that I’ll always miss: the people there (family/friends), reasonably-priced avocados, etc. But I can definitely say that I’ve fallen in love with Seattle. It’s such a fantastic city and I am so glad I chose to come to school up here. It’s been a great experience living in a new city and it’s the perfect distance away from home—I’m learning to be on my own, but if something happened and I needed to be home it’s just a quick plane ride away. I chose to come to school up here because I knew I wanted to go to school in an urban location, and Seattle felt like the right city for me: great arts scene, on the water, really friendly, and on the smaller-end.

Hope this answers your question!

End of Junior Year?!

Well, as of 9:30am yesterday, I am technically DONE with my junior year at SU! This is crazy, I don’t even think I can fully wrap my head around it. This year, just like college as a whole, went by so fast. What a year it was, and I’m glad I got to share at least half of it with you all!

This weekend is graduation for our lovely seniors, and on Monday I start working full-time at my internship. Things are definitely starting to pick up as we’re gearing up for Bumbershoot over Labor Day weekend.

I’ll be around Seattle all summer and definitely keeping you all updated. If you’re from the area you already know this, but summer in Seattle is one of the area’s best-kept secrets. 75-degree days with bright blue skies; it’s the best!

So expect many photos of my summer adventures and life in the beautiful Emerald City!

Apologies for all the photos we’ve been posting but isn’t it clear we love our job in the Admissions office and love our staff?
This was our end-of-the-year office lunch to honor our graduating seniors, and naturally we had to take a photoshoot in front of the building.

Next week is finals: only one presentation and two written tests stand between me and the end of my junior year—crazy!!

The view from Kerry Park, Seattle.

Kerry Park is one of my absolute favorite spots in Seattle—I came here on the trip I took as I high school senior when I decided I wanted to go to SU. The view is just breathtaking, and it’s a pretty classic Seattle spot. This photo was taken on Sunday, and I’m happy to report the weather is still this gorgeous!

Q:is the Diagnostic Ultrasound major at Seattle University hard to get into? Does it seem like a solid program? if you are denied for a certain major, but are still accepted into Seattle U, is it difficult to reapply for the major at the end of sophomore year? or is that not how it works?

laced-to-crown

Hi, thanks for your question!

I’m a marketing major at SU, so I’m by no means the expert on our Diagnostic Ultrasound program. I can tell you, though, that since SU is located within walking distance of 5 major hospitals all of our medical programs (nursing, diagnostic ultrasound, and pre-med) have lots of opportunity for hands-on work since you’re attending school in one of the most awesome medical communities in the country! And since SU really prides itself on small class sizes, you’ll definitely have the benefit of getting to know your professors and peers in your classes.

I also don’t make any decisions in terms of applications, so I think it’d be most helpful to check out their website http://www.seattleu.edu/scieng/diagu/ or give them a call at 206.296.5960. They’d be able to give you the best answers to your questions.

Hope this helps!

Here’s an update on all things non-Quadstock in my life:

1) For the upcoming long weekend I’ll be heading to the great state of Illinois! My friend, Bridget, and I will be doing some sightseeing in Chicago and then off to the suburb where she’s from for her sister’s high school graduation. I’ve never been to Chicago, let alone that area of the U.S., so it will be fun to check it out!

2) This week I registered for classes for fall quarter of my SENIOR YEAR! Holy cow. I can barely believe it. No matter where you end up for college, it’s generally understood that those four years fly by, and it’s true! So definitely try to make the most of it

3) My internship at One Reel is going great! I’m definitely starting to get into the swing of things, am loving working on a festival, and am getting really excited for Bumbershoot weekend in September. If any of you blog followers are local you should definitely consider coming! It’s an awesome line-up this year: http://bumbershoot.org/

I’ll be back next week for updates on my trip!

IT’S QUADSTOCK SEASON!
Quadstock, SU’s largest community event, is coming up THIS SATURDAY and I’m so excited! My fellow blogger, Evan, has been working on this event as the Quadstock chair all year long and it’s finally here.
Quadstock is an all-day music festival held on campus. The Union Green is open with a stage showcasing student bands and many SU clubs table as well. The main stage is set up on the Quad. This year’s main stage acts are SU Battle of the Bands winner The Ramblin’ Years, Ivan & Alyosha, Youth Lagoon, Brother Ali, and Super Mash Bros.
The photos above are mine from the past 2 Quadstock days I’ve attended at SU. The photos of the crowd on the quad are from 2011, for The Hood Internet’s set. And the other photo is from the Union Green at last year’s Quadstock!

Counting down the days till Saturday!
